We are already counting down the days to Christmas with M.A. Kuzniar, author of the utterly magic Midnight in Everwood!
Joining us on this wonderfully festive Friday, M.A. Kuzniar shares with us her favourite things to read and watch when the weather starts to get a little colder and magic enters the air…
The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan
Really, I could have picked any of Sarah Morgan’s Christmassy books – I adore them all and I always pick up her latest for my Christmas Eve book every year – but this one is one of my favourites. Set in the Scottish Highlands, Suzanne wants the perfect Christmas with her three daughters but when they arrive home, secrets and old fights start to play havoc with Suzanne’s plan. It’s uplifting and heart-warming and best read by the twinkly glow of fairy lights.
Home for Christmas
What could be better than a Christmas film? A Christmas TV series! This Norwegian series on Netflix follows the dating adventures of perpetually single Johanne, who has to bring a boyfriend home for Christmas. Hilarious at times, poignant at others, and always filled with plenty of friendship, heart and SNOW, curl up with a hot chocolate (always top with plenty of whipped cream and grated chocolate for the optimum experience!), and immerse yourself in a beautifully festive Norway.
Someday at Christmas by Lizzie Byron
This is a pure delight. The main character is a make-up artist at a beautiful old department store, which desperately needs saving. Until she stumbles on a romcom being secretly filmed after hours in the store. Cosy and romantic and filled with heart, this is the one to munch your way through a mince pie with.
The Christmas Lights by Karen Swan
Set in the gorgeous Norwegian fjords as Christmas approaches, this follows a pair of globetrotting influencers whose seemingly enviable life is unravelling. With forays back to 1936 where a secondary mystery is unfolding, this one is perfect if you prefer your festive read with a dash of suspense.
Elf
I love Elf. If I had to pick one Christmas film to watch each year, it would be Elf. Maybe it’s because it captures the whimsy of the festive season and encourages us to enjoy ourselves the same way we did when we were children, or maybe it’s because every December 1st (or November 1st if I’m being truly honest here), I get so excited that Christmas is finally on its way that I start becoming the literal embodiment of elf!
