An interview with amateur sleuth, Vera Wong

Next week sees the publication of Jesse Sutanto’s new cosy crime novel, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice For Murderers and to celebrate, we’re honoured to welcome Vera herself to the blog. It’s not every day we’re lucky enough to have an actual (amateur) detective on our platforms!

HQ Crime reporter: Hi everyone, today we have Vera Wong of Vera Wong’s Famous Teahouse to tell us all about the most shocking discovery she made in her little tea shop in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Vera, you must be so shaken after what you found today.

Vera: It’s Vera Wang’s Famous Teahouse. Not Wong.

HQ Crime reporter: Oh, I’m sorry. I thought your name is Vera Wong.

Vera: It is. But the tea house is named after Vera Wang, the famous designer.

HQ Crime reporter: Oh! Does she own a share in it?

Vera: No. I just borrow her name. So more people come to my tea house. It’s called innovation. You young people should learn it.

HQ Crime reporter: I see. Okay. Well, would you like to tell us what you found at your tea house this morning?

Vera: Big mess in my tea house, the window on my door is broken. It is terrible! Oh and there was dead body.

HQ Crime reporter: Yes, about the dead body–

Vera: His name is Marshall Chen and he was murdered in my tea house!

HQ Crime reporter: Well, actually, the police said they don’t think foul play was involved.

Vera: The police! What they know? They even refuse to drink the special tea I brew for them. I told them, it will increase your brain power, help you with your investigation, but did they listen?

HQ Crime reporter: I’m guessing they didn’t.

Vera: No. They ask me: Ma’am, did you draw outline around the dead body? Of course I did! I am trying to help.

HQ Crime reporter: You drew an outline around the dead body?

Vera: Very carefully. You look worried. It’s okay, don’t worry, I will solve this murder.

HQ Crime reporter: How do you plan to do that?

Vera: Well. We all know that murderers come back to scene of crime. So all I have to do is watch to see who come by my teahouse in the next few days and I will catch the killer. Simple.

HQ Crime reporter: I’m not sure how simple it would be, but I wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Vera: Luck is for lazy people.

HQ Crime reporter: Okay, well thank you for your time.

Vera: Come back next week, I will tell you who is the killer.

Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice For Murderers by Jesse Sutanto is out in eBook, audiobook and paperback 16th March.
